jeremy bastian's gotham by gaslight

detail-

i know many people in comics collect art, original pages, sketches, etc. i've seen the many themed or artist specific galleries and its amazing what some can accumulate over time and patience.
i dont, though. i have a pile of pages i've drawn, and a small stack of pages my artists friends have drawn and given me on the drawign table i dont use behind me( that one day i can brag about). i used to have this amazing travis charest, unused wildcats, page that was given to me when i started at WS by my, then editor, and good friend ( still...for now...) john layman. It was simply amazing. to see the original and every little line of work he put down on it. i kept it hanging on my wall in front of my drawign table literally 2 feet away for inspiration. a year later, i gave the page back to john upon leaving Wildstorm to see how far i can manage myself being freelance instead of in house. i woudl have jsut lost it living out of my car anyway, i guess.
this year, while in the artist alley in Chicago, i had the privilege of sitting next to this amazing artist named Jeremy Bastion. I was floored by this guys ability to control the pen, lines... overall execution of everythign he did. I think its a feelign of "completion" he gives his work. sort of the same feeling you get when you look at mignola's work.. one more line and its too much. i know.. two totally differnt artist, but its this old world feeling of when the art was "done".
with my own work, i can never tell when its done or not, i jsut move on becuase deadlines and fedex knock at my door. but stuff like this, its almost like he knew that last line was enough.
anyway, ideas started flooding thru my head about what he'd be SO awesoem at. LOEG?! even better... gotham by gaslight. i've always wanted to do a gaslight peice for myself for fun, but have yet wandered far enough into that.
so this was perfect. my first ever commission, and i love it. thanks jeremy man.
merry merry christmas to ME.
oh yeah, the scans do them no justice at all btw, keep in mind the original is only 11x14. guy's a madman!

im surprised no one has commented on how cool this piece is. maybe its gotta have a lot of t&a for the average comic fan to appreciate it.
naw, i'm still trying to absorb the intensity and completely insane line work.
peace out
It's got an old world feel about it. This is one hypnotic art piece.
